Maura currently contributes to the Health Service in the role of Director of Nursing & Midwifery Regional Centre of Nursing & Midwifery Education, Tullamore. Her role, in partnership with relevant stakeholders, is to strategically plan, develop, procure, co-ordinate and provide evidence based education and training for nurses, midwives and healthcare support staff. Education provided is based on relevant and up to date research and provided in a collaborative learning environment to encourage reflection and innovation.
Having trained as a general nurse in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin in 1991 and a midwife in Galway University Hospital in 1997, Maura continued her nursing career in Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe where she added a registered nurse tutor qualification to her portfolio.
Maura’s career of 29 years has spanned across the four pillars of nursing ie Clinical, Management, Research and Education. Maura has worked in nursing management roles in various settings, across the Saolta University Health Care Group.
Maura has gained valuable skills and expertise from the Diploma in Executive Coaching. This enables her to provide a strong academic foundation for the ethos that she believes in. She is passionate and dedicated regarding facilitating staff to enhance their critical thinking and unlock their potential. This in turn enables and motivates staff to give person-centred care and enrich the nursing service we provide.
Maura holds the position of Honorary Secretary for IADNAM.
